Week 3

The prompt for week 3 is You Make Me Smile.

So continuing with my ATC for this challenge I created a sweet little bird. I love the quote I found about smiles.

I first applied a generous coating of gesso to my card which I cut from 90 lb watercolor paper measuring 2 1/2 in x 3 1/2 in.  Then I added the piece of music paper with the notes using Modge Podge.  Then I drew my little birdie and colored her in with Derwent Inktense pencils and a waterbrush. I inked the background with Dylusions inks.  I wrote the quote and found the sticker that seemed to fit right in.

A Documented Life - Week 4

Week 4 of A Documented Life Challenge-Write a secret message and then paint over all but one key word.


I focused the page around my word of the year, reflect.  I then wrote the things that I need to reflect on such as family, job, church, friends, etc.  I painted over all but really wanted to keep the word reflect visible.  It all stayed visible so not so secret but that's OK.  I am happy with the page.  I doodled on the page and popped it into the Moleskine.

Journal 52 - Week 2

The Journal 52 prompt this week is Somewhere, a Simple Place.  Here is what Chelle wrote about the prompt:

For this week’s prompt, think of places you love. Maybe it is the library, your home, the kitchen, a garden, the place where you create, a travel destination or being surrounded with family or friends. Maybe your place is imaginary. Think of things you enjoy that are related to places and spaces in your life – or maybe a place you wish existed.

So I just went with the first thing that popped into my head.  Paris.....I have always wanted to go to Paris.  I know it isn't exactly a "simple" place but that is what I wanted to run with.  So here is my ATC with my theme Paris on it.

And here it is with it's own little envelope ready to go into my A Documented Life journal.

That beautiful baby is my 7 week old granddaughter, Lydia.  I am keeping a weekly photo journal of her in this journal also so I can document her as she grows up.  She has already grown so much.  She is my precious angel.  Can't wait til she and Nana can go do fun things together.  Right now I'm just content to hold her and kiss her and make her smile at me.

New Challenge!!

As if I don't have enough on my plate, I found another weekly journal challenge.  It is called Journal 52.  I thought I could do this challenge along with my A Documented Life Challenge since it is a weekly one also.  I decided instead of doing a journal page I am going to do an ATC (artist trading card) for each week and put it in a little envelope in my Moleskine journal.  I'll post these each week as well as the challenge for the journal.

I am already behind since I just discovered this challenge but here is my first weeks make.  The challenge was Up, Up and Away!.   I immediately thought of the pretty bird stamp I just got in the mail from Unity Stamps.

I used several different inks to color the background and then used colored pencils to color in the bird.  I added some bling to the bird with some gold dust to add interest.

And here it is added to the Moleskine journal with it's own little envelope.

Mail Art

The challenge for week 3 on The Documented Life Project is to use mail art.  I didn't even know what that is so I went to my Pinterst page and searched and found so many lovely art works made on envelopes.  I found a piece of junk mail which I promptly threw away and kept the envelope.  Then I went about transforming it and added it into my journal.

Oh my.  I think I'm hooked.

The Documented Life

I am participating in The Documented Life Project.  You can read all about it by visiting the webpage.

The first week we were challenged to paint, draw or otherwise show our front door.

I sketched my front door then colored using Inktense pencils with a waterbrush.  Yes, my door is somewhat pink although the color on the can says Desert Sands.  I attached it into my Moleskine journal with washi tape and began journaling daily.

The second week we were to do a "selfie" and incorporate it into a journal page. This was a bit of a challenge because I am not into the whole "selfie" photo thing.  But I persevered and did it.  Oh and we were to add our Word from the One Little Word project into it also if we were following that project also. I'm not actually formally doing that one but I chose a word for the year to work with myself.  My word is "Reflect"

I have a lot to reflect on this year.  A lot to be thankful for.

Homemade Christmas

Now that Christmas has come and gone, I can show some of my homemade gifts.

This is one of three message boards I made for my Mom, Sister-in-law and Sister.  It is a Dollar Store metal serving tray spray painted with Chalk Board Paint.  I then glued the flowers on.  My husband drilled holes in the top and I threaded ribbon through them.  The cool thing about these message boards is that since they are metal you can use small magnets to hold photos or whatever and you can write on it with chalk.  Pinterest never lets me down.

This is a stretched canvas of burlap.  I bought a big "G" for my sister Gwen which I put all sorts of goodies on including a bit of dictionary page that is for Sister.  Then I glued it onto the burlap background.  I added a piece of ribbon that is attached at the back so that she can clip pictures or whatever to it.  Again I would like to thank my Pinterest addiction for this idea.

For my Dad the artist I did an 8x10 canvas.  I spread modeling paste through two different stencils with a pallet knife. I then embedded bits of watch parts like stems and bits of the inner workings into the wet modeling paste.  I used spray inks and let them drip and mix on the canvas.  I used gold glitter mist over all.   I call this "Losing Time".  Even though Dad is a pastel artist he loved it.
