12 Minths in View -Easter Sunday

Today our challenge was to use the template provided by Judy to make a page layout.
Here is the layout example we were given:

The Bible verse is from John 11: 25-26
I am the resurrection and the life.  He who believes in Me, though he may die will, he shall live.  And whoever lives and believes in Me shall never die.

Here is my page using all of these elements:

I hope you and your family have had a blessed day and a wonderful Easter.

Peep Cake

We had Easter dinner with our son, Joe and daughter-in-law Lisa today at the weekend cottage in Kentucky.  For this occasion I made a Peep Cake.  What's a peep you ask?

Peeps are a nasty marshmallow confection that is made to look like chicks...... hence the name peeps.  You only find them around Easter.

I found a photo of a cake on Pinterest a couple of years ago where the cake had peeps around the edge and chocolate chips in the center.  It looked like a sunflower with the peeps being the petals and the chips being the seeds.  I made it then and this one was even better.  Too cute.

Hope everyone has a happy Easter.

What to make?

I didn't post the things I made with the Shaving Cream last evening because after cleaning up, I just didn't have the time.  It was late and I was sleepy and the hubby was complaining that I wasn't paying him any attention.  Men......don't they realize that when we are in the zone we have to just go with it?  Guess not.  Anyway, I  finished one of the tags I had colored with the technique.  I wasn't happy at all with the finished product.  You know how you see something in your head and when you finish it the end doesn't look at all like you pictured?  That was how this worked out.

I didn't even take a photo of it to share....it was that bad.

Well, couldn't leave it at that so I sat and pondered what to do.  I started playing with a piece of wire and threaded some beads onto it.  It looked cute and I had some ribbon that has some spring like flowers on it so I tied a bow through a loop in the wire.  It started looking like a dragonfly and suddenly I was off.....

I'm quite happy with this journal page.  I think it turned out nicely with the pretty shaving cream background paper on it.  And I added a flower and some washi tape for good measure.

I am slowly learning that not everything is going to work out.  That it is OK to make mistakes in art just as it is OK to make mistakes in life.  That is how we learn and grow.  I'm also realizing that my art supplies are there to be used.  I can use them without fear of messing up.  I don't have to make a masterpiece everytime I set out to make art.  I can always buy more supplies.  I think those two things were what hampered me for so many years.  The fear that whatever I made wouldn't be "right" or "perfect" or "good enough" to warrent using up good art supplies.  My father who is an artist has tried to get me to realize that for so many years.  Don't know why it is finally penetrating my thick skull.  Must be that "maturing" process.

Fun with Shaving Cream

I buckled down and finally worked on the shaving foam Challange for the UKPaperCrafters@yahoogroups.com.  I tried this technique once before with less than satisfactory results and I think that is what has kept me from jumping into this Challange so far.  But, this evening after dinner I took a deep breath and waded in.

I absolutely loved it today.  This time instead of using the alcohol inks I used my spay inks.  The colors were so much more vivid.

In the picture you can see all my results.  Not only did I make two tags and three small papers but with the foam and ink that was left I wiped the left overs up with the paper towels I had used to wipe off the papers.  I sprayed them with a bit more ink wrapped them up in the freezer paper I had used to line the plastic tray.  This made some absolutely fabulous colored paper and even the freezer paper looked great.

Altered Altoid Tin

Hubby and I went to the weekend cottage to do some painting this past weekend since Friday and Saturday were supposed to be fairly decent.  We painted walls so not my kind of painting.  Although I took some supplies to work in my art journal I was so tired after two days of painting walls I just didn't have the energy to work on it.  When we got home Sunday morning, I made up for it though.  I really need to get caught up on 12 Months in View.  I believe I have 3 challanges to complete now.

My swap partner from Miliande Artist Community tin swap finally received her tin so I can share the pictures.  The challange was to make a story book that would fit inside an altoid tin.  It had to carry the same theme throughout.  This challange took place in February.  My theme was "The Birds and The Bees".  Here are the pictures of my completed tin and story book that fit inside the tin.

Spring Zine - 12 Months in View

I wasn't a bit happy with my previous attempt at the Zine challange.  To me it was too heavy to represent the lightness of spring so I did a remake.  I found an 8 1/2 x 14" sheet of printer paper and did the folding and cutting technique to make my new zine.  I then used my distress inks to color the background.  I found some spring images online and printed them and cut them out and attached them.  I am much happier with this version.  Let me know what you think.

12 Months in View Updated

I went a little blog crazy.  I am following 12 Months in View, a wonderful new blog with monthly and seasonally based challenges.  I had started a separate blog to post my challenges and another one for everyday blogging but that has turned out to be a little much to keep up so I've decided to incorporate everything here in this one space.  Below I am going to post all the images from the other blogs so that they are here.

1st Challange
Each month we are are going to take a photograph on the same day, at the same time, of the same place.

This is my front flower bed from the sidewalk.  Our challenge is to take a photo of the same spot each month so we can watch the changes each month thru the seasons.

2nd Challange
Use an image of a lamb or sheep in a journal page.
I found this sweet little lamb that looks like it is smelling the daffodils.  I enhanced it with some Inktense pencils and then journaled above.

3rd Challenge
Image of a daffodil.

Next we were challenged to make a daffodil using a technique where we took a printed image of a daffodil and using transfer paper to place the image on our journal page and add color.
4th Challenge Make a Zine.
Here are my cover for my spring Zine and March page.

OK.  I believe this blog is all caught up now.
